PTC exam in 3 weeks — how dense is the pedagogy theory section?

I'm sitting for the Professional Teaching Certification exam in just under 3 weeks and I'm feeling okay about the content knowledge sections but the pedagogy theory part is making me nervous. I taught for 2 years before going back to complete the formal certification, so I know the classroom stuff in practice — translating that into theory language is a different skill.

From what I've gathered, the pedagogy section is about 35% of the total score and covers learning theory, assessment design, and differentiation strategies. I've been reviewing Bloom's taxonomy and the major constructivist frameworks but I keep finding new names and models in practice questions that weren't in my prep materials. It's hard to know when you've covered enough.

My current score on practice sets is around 71%, which is just above the 70% passing threshold. That margin feels too thin for the real exam, especially since I haven't done a full timed simulation yet. I'm planning to run two full-length timed tests this weekend to see where I actually land under pressure. Three weeks is workable if I stay focused.

Has anyone taken this recently? I'd like to know if the scenario-based questions lean more toward elementary or secondary contexts. Most of my experience is secondary and I want to make sure I'm not blindsided by early childhood development content.

71% on practice with 3 weeks left is reasonable. I was at 68% two weeks out and scored 76% on the real thing. The actual exam felt slightly less tricky than some of the harder practice sets I'd been drilling.

The scenario questions I saw were mostly grade-band neutral — they'd describe a classroom situation without specifying age and ask you to select the best instructional strategy. Knowing your Vygotsky and Piaget cold is more important than memorizing age-specific milestones.

Two full timed simulations this weekend is smart. I only did one before my exam and I think the pacing issue on the real test cost me 3–4 questions I probably knew the answers to.

Don't underestimate the assessment design questions. There were more of them than I expected and they require you to evaluate rubric validity and standards alignment, not just define assessment types. That caught me off guard.
