Failed PTC twice — what finally worked for my third attempt?

So I've been trying to pass the PTC for almost a year now and honestly I was ready to give up after my second fail. Both times I scored in the 68-70% range and the passing threshold is 75%, so I wasn't miles off but I just couldn't close the gap. My main struggle was the pharmacotherapy sections and the calculations — I kept second-guessing myself on dosing conversions.

What finally turned things around was actually committing to a structured PTC practice test routine instead of just reading through the study guide passively. I started doing timed 90-question blocks every other day for six weeks and tracking which domains I consistently missed. Turns out my technician law knowledge was solid but my sterile compounding and brand/generic name recognition were killing me.

If you're in the same boat, I'd genuinely recommend doing at least 500 practice questions before your exam date. Anyone else have specific exam tips that helped them break through a plateau? Especially curious about strategies for the math sections.

Congrats on pushing through — that persistence is huge. For the math sections I made a cheat sheet of every conversion factor and practiced it cold every morning until it was automatic. Also, don't skip the sig code questions, they show up more than you'd expect. The brand/generic names are rough but flashcards with categories (beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, etc.) made it way more manageable for me. Passed on my second try with an 82%.

I had a similar experience with sterile compounding. What helped me was actually watching some ASHP YouTube videos alongside the study guide because seeing the process visually made the procedural steps stick. One thing I'd add — time management during the actual exam is sneaky. I ran out of time on my first attempt because I spent too long on questions I wasn't sure about. Now I flag and move on, always.

The 500 question minimum is real advice. I did closer to 700 and felt genuinely calm walking into the testing center. Good luck on your third attempt — you clearly know the material, it's just about building that test-taking confidence at this point.
