Finally passed PSTAR after two failed attempts — here's what actually worked

Okay so I've been lurking on this forum for months and I figured I owe it to everyone to actually post now that I've got my stamp. Failed my first attempt back in February with a 66% (you need 90% to pass, which is brutal), then tried again in April and got an 84%. Just passed last week with a 91% and honestly I'm still a little shocked.

What finally clicked for me was stopping the random YouTube rabbit holes and getting serious with structured PSTAR practice test questions — like actually doing full timed runs and tracking which topics I kept missing. For me it was low-level airspace rules and the northern domestic airspace stuff. Also found a solid study guide that broke down the Transport Canada AIM sections in plain English instead of the dense regulatory language.

Anyone else out there on their second or third attempt? Happy to share the specific exam tips that helped me push from 84% to 91%. The difference was mostly about understanding the WHY behind the rules, not just memorizing answers.

I'm currently on attempt number one — sitting it next Thursday and honestly a bit nervous. I've been going through a PSTAR study guide I found but I'm second-guessing whether I've covered enough. The weather and altimeter sections feel solid but I'm shaky on the radio procedures and some of the circuit rules. Did you find the actual exam matched pretty closely with the practice questions you were doing, or were there surprises?

Congrats! The 90% pass mark is no joke — I don't think people realize how hard this one is until they sit it. I passed on my second try too. The airspace questions were my nemesis as well. What I did was draw out the airspace diagrams by hand like ten times until they were burned in. Sounds old school but it stuck way better than flashcards for me. How long did you study between your second and third attempt?

The tip about understanding the WHY is huge. I tutored ground school for two years and students who just memorized the pool answers almost always struggled to hit 90. The exam loves to rephrase things just enough to trip you up. Know the principles and the specific numbers will follow.
