Failed NH DMV knowledge test twice — what am I missing?

So I'm officially embarrassed. I've taken the NH DMV knowledge test twice now and failed both times. First attempt I got a 68%, second time a 72% — you need a 75% to pass. I've been reading the driver's manual but honestly it's pretty dry and I keep zoning out halfway through the traffic signs section. My test is scheduled for next Friday and I really can't afford to fail a third time (the $10 fee adds up but more importantly I need my license for a new job).

I finally found a decent NH DMV practice test online that actually mirrors the real question format, which helped me realize I'm weak on right-of-way rules and the specific speed limits for school zones vs. highway work zones. Does anyone have a solid study guide or know which topics get hammered the hardest on the NH version specifically? I keep seeing conflicting info about how many questions are on the test and what counts as a passing score.

Any tips from people who've recently passed would be seriously appreciated. I feel like I understand driving fine but translating that into test answers is a whole different thing.

Just passed last month! One tip: don't second-guess yourself on questions about following distance and stopping distance. The manual numbers are exact and the test holds you to them. If you've been doing practice tests consistently and scoring 80%+ on those, you're ready.

I failed once too before passing on my second try. Honestly the biggest thing that helped me was doing timed practice tests instead of just reading. The real test is 40 questions and you need 32 correct — so 80%, not 75% like some sites say. NH is stricter than people think. I drilled right-of-way intersections probably 50 times. Give yourself at least 3-4 days of focused practice, not just one cram session the night before.

The signs section tripped me up too. What I didn't realize is they show you the actual sign image, not just the name — so you need to recognize shapes and colors cold, not just memorize definitions. Yellow diamond = warning, that kind of thing. I used the official NH DMV study guide PDF plus a third-party app and doing both back to back really locked stuff in. Also the alcohol/DUI laws section had more questions than I expected. Good luck Friday!
