Failed my NH DMV knowledge test twice, finally figured out what works

So I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I failed the NH DMV knowledge test two times before I finally passed last week. The first time I figured I could just wing it after skimming the driver's manual for an hour. Big mistake. Second time I studied harder but kept getting tripped up on the right-of-way rules and those road sign questions.

What actually turned the corner for me was using a proper NH DMV practice test that simulates the real exam format. I'd been reading the manual passively but never actually testing myself. Once I started doing timed practice runs and tracking which sections I kept missing, everything clicked. Spent about 4-5 hours spread across three days doing that instead of just rereading.

For anyone else struggling — the alcohol/drug laws section and the specific speed limits in school/work zones were way more heavily tested than I expected. Don't sleep on those. Happy to share more of what worked if anyone's prepping right now.

This is literally me right now. Failed once already and my test is rescheduled for next Thursday. The right-of-way stuff is killing me, especially the uncontrolled intersections. Did the practice tests you used actually cover that in detail? I've been using the NH DMV study guide PDF but I feel like I'm just reading words at this point without it sticking.

The school zone speed limit questions got me too on my first attempt. It's 15 mph in NH, not 25 like some states. Also double-check the rules around passing school buses — that one shows up more than you'd think. Good luck everyone.

Congrats on passing! I went through this last fall. One thing that helped me was doing the practice questions out loud and explaining WHY the answer was correct. Sounds weird but it forced me to actually understand the rule instead of just memorizing. The real test in Concord had a lot of situational questions, not just straight definition stuff. Took me about 6 hours total prep time spread over a week.
