Does the ACC certification actually help you get hired at Delta or American?
I'm targeting a gate agent or customer service representative role at a major carrier. Specifically I've applied to both delta airlines customer service and American airlines customer service positions. Would holding the ACC certification meaningfully improve my chances, or do the airlines train everyone from scratch anyway?
I've read conflicting opinions online — some HR people say certifications show initiative, others say airline-specific training overrides everything external. I'm about two weeks into studying and I've been using the ACC airline practice tests to build foundational knowledge.
Would love to hear from anyone who listed this cert on their resume and got called back, or conversely, found it made no difference in the hiring process.
I listed it on my application to a regional carrier and the recruiter specifically mentioned it in the phone screen — said it showed I understood the industry before starting. Major carriers do train you from scratch, but arriving with baseline knowledge means you look confident in the interview and ramp up faster once hired. The cert won't get you the job alone, but it's a differentiator in a pile of entry-level applications.
