Anyone found good free CPT study resources besides the obvious ones?
I've already gone through the standard "chat cpt" results on Google and most of it is just selling prep courses. Looking for actual free resources.
What I've tried:
- Practice tests here (solid, especially for cpt code)
- A few YouTube channels but the quality is all over the place
- Reddit threads from 2+ years ago (some outdated)
What I haven't tried yet:
- The official CPT study guide — is it actually worth reading cover to cover?
- Library resources — anyone actually found useful materials there?
- Specific YouTube channels that cover cpt codes well
I don't mind paying for something that's genuinely better than free, but I want to max out free options first. Budget is tight.
What resources did you use that you'd actually recommend?
The honest answer is: it depends a lot on your background.
If you're already working in this field, the CPT exam is testing knowledge you probably use daily. The "chat cpt" sections will feel familiar.
If you're coming in from outside, give yourself an extra 2 weeks and really focus on the practical application questions.
The practice tests here are worth doing repeatedly — I did the same test bank multiple times and found new questions I'd missed each time.
Coming back to this thread because I just passed my CPT yesterday. Everything people said about the cpt section is spot on — that was the hardest part for me too. For anyone still studying, don't skip the applied questions in the NASM Personal Trainer. They're the closest to what you'll actually see.
Quick update: just cleared 92% on my most recent CPT practice set using cpt practice test pdf. Sitting for the real thing in 2 weeks. Feeling cautiously optimistic.
For anyone finding this later: CPT is passable with consistent effort even working full time. I studied 43 minutes a day for 8 weeks. The cpt practice test pdf kept me honest about my actual gaps.
