Failed ASCP BOC twice — what actually worked for you on the third attempt?
I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to pass this thing. Failed my first attempt back in February with a 390 (need 400 to pass), then retook it in April and got a 395. Both times I thought I was ready. I spent probably 150 hours studying between the two attempts using just the ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology study guide and some random Quizlet decks, and clearly that's not cutting it.
The areas that keep killing me are hematology and microbiology — I can never remember all the morphological differences between cell types, and micro identification always trips me up under time pressure. I've started using actual ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology practice test resources this time around instead of just reading. Currently working through the ASCP Hematology 3 set and it's humbling but I think it's helping me see where my gaps actually are.
Anyone who passed on a third or later attempt — what did you change? Did you focus on specific domains, change your study schedule, anything? I'm aiming to sit again in August and I really can't afford another fail both financially and emotionally.
