Finally passed 1Z0-082 after failing twice — here's what actually worked
So I just got my Oracle Database Administration I certification and I'm still kind of in shock. I failed this thing twice before finally passing last week with an 82%. The first two attempts I was just reading the official docs and watching YouTube videos, and honestly that wasn't cutting it. The SQL tuning and performance sections destroyed me both times.
What finally made the difference was switching to a proper 1Z0 082 practice test routine. I started doing timed mock exams every single day for the last three weeks of my prep — like, 20-30 questions minimum before work each morning. The exam format threw me off early on because the wording is deliberately tricky, especially around RMAN backup strategies and undo management. Drilling practice questions got me used to how Oracle phrases things.
I also found a solid study guide that broke down the multitenant architecture topics, which were way more heavily tested than I expected. Spent about 90 hours total across four months. If anyone's in the middle of prep or recovering from a failed attempt, happy to share more specifics about which topics to prioritize.
