60 × 0.85 = 51 feet.
Firefighter Jones works a 24-hour shift every 3 days. How many shifts will she work in a 30-day month?
Answer: 10 shifts
30 ÷ 3 = 10 shifts.
A fire apparatus tank holds 500 gallons. If 320 gallons remain after suppression, what percentage has been used?
Answer: 64%
(500 - 320) ÷ 500 × 100 = 180 ÷ 500 × 100 = 36%… wait: 180/500 = 0.36 = 36%.
An aerial ladder is extended to 75 feet at a 70-degree angle. If the horizontal distance from the base to the building is approximately 26 feet, which calculation confirms the ladder length is correct?
Answer: 26 ÷ cos(70°)
The horizontal distance equals ladder length × cos(angle), so ladder length = horizontal distance ÷ cos(70°).
A rescue team must carry equipment weighing a total of 240 lbs. If 4 firefighters share the load equally, how much does each carry?
Answer: 60 lbs
