Answer: 42 mph
Speed = 14 miles ÷ (20/60) hours = 14 × 3 = 42 mph.
A department purchases 8 sets of turnout gear at $1,450 each and 5 helmets at $210 each. What is the total cost?
Answer: $12,650
(8 × $1,450) + (5 × $210) = $11,600 + $1,050 = $12,650.
A building has 6 floors, each 12 feet high. Including a 4-foot parapet wall on the roof, what is the total height of the building?
Answer: 76 feet
(6 × 12) + 4 = 72 + 4 = 76 feet.
Out of 240 fire inspections, 15% resulted in violations. How many inspections had NO violations?
Answer: 204
15% had violations = 0.15 × 240 = 36; 240 − 36 = 204 had no violations.
A fire hose is 50 feet long. If 3 hoses are connected end-to-end and then 25 feet are removed, what is the total length?
