A fire department uses 3 gallons of foam concentrate per 100 gallons of water. How much concentrate is needed for 800 gallons of water?
Answer: 24 gallons
3 gallons per 100 gallons = 3% ratio. 3% × 800 = 24 gallons.
A firefighter earns $22.00 per hour for the first 40 hours in a week. Hours over 40 are paid at straight time (no overtime premium). She works 56 hours. What are her total gross earnings?

A fire burns through 2,400 square feet of a 6,000 square-foot warehouse. What percentage of the warehouse was NOT damaged?
Answer: 60%
Damaged: 2,400 ÷ 6,000 = 40%. Undamaged: 100% − 40% = 60%.
A tanker holds 2,000 gallons of water. It delivers water at 500 GPM and takes 8 minutes to travel to the fill site and 8 minutes to return. What is the effective flow rate during a sustained tanker shuttle?
Answer: 100 GPM
Dump time: 2,000 ÷ 500 = 4 min. Cycle time: 4 + 8 + 8 = 20 min. Effective rate: 2,000 ÷ 20 = 100 GPM.
Ladder Company 7 has 4 firefighters. Engine Company 3 has 3 firefighters. Rescue 1 has 2 firefighters. If each firefighter carries 35 lbs of PPE, what is the total weight of PPE carried by all personnel on scene?
Answer: 315 lbs
Total personnel: 4 + 3 + 2 = 9. Total PPE weight: 9 × 35 = 315 lbs.
A fire department's response time goal is 6 minutes. Last month, average response time was 7 minutes 45 seconds. By how many seconds did performance exceed the goal?
Answer: 105 seconds
