What does a blue circular sign showing '30' mean?
Answer: Minimum speed 30 mph
A blue circular sign with a white number indicates a minimum speed limit. You must travel at least 30 mph unless road conditions make it unsafe. The end of the minimum speed zone is shown by the same sign with a red diagonal line through it.
What do chevron signs (black and white arrows) on a bend indicate?
Answer: A sharp deviation in the road — follow the direction of the arrows
Black and white chevron boards are placed on sharp bends to guide you around the curve. The arrows point in the direction you should steer. They are especially important at night when the bend may be hard to see.
What does a white 'H' on a blue rectangular background sign indicate?
Answer: Hospital ahead
The blue 'H' sign indicates the direction to the nearest hospital with an accident and emergency department. It helps drivers find emergency medical facilities quickly.
Yellow box junction markings on the road mean you must not enter unless:
Answer: Your exit road or lane is clear
You must not enter a box junction unless your exit is clear. The one exception is when turning right — you may wait in the box if your exit is clear but you are prevented from turning by oncoming traffic.
What does a circular sign with a red border and a red diagonal line on a white background mean?
Answer: National speed limit applies
This sign indicates the national speed limit applies. The national speed limit is 30 mph on lit roads (with street lamps), 60 mph on single carriageways, and 70 mph on dual carriageways and motorways for cars.
What does a triangular warning sign showing an exclamation mark mean?
Answer: Danger — a hazard not covered by other signs
A triangular sign with a red border and a black exclamation mark warns of a hazard that has no specific sign. A supplementary plate beneath it will describe the actual danger, such as 'hidden dip' or 'fallen tree'.
