  1. What must you do when an emergency vehicle approaches with blue flashing lights and a siren?

Answer: Pull over to the left and stop if safe to do so

When an emergency vehicle approaches, you should consider pulling over to the left when it is safe to do so and allow it to pass. Do not mount the kerb, brake harshly, or panic. Never go through a red light or enter a bus lane to make way — you could still be prosecuted.

  2. When must you notify the DVLA about your vehicle?

Answer: When there is a change of keeper, address, or the vehicle is scrapped or exported

You must inform the DVLA when you sell or transfer the vehicle, change your address, the vehicle is scrapped (via an Authorised Treatment Facility) or permanently exported. Failure to notify can result in fines.

  3. What is the 'two-second rule' used for?

Answer: Judging a safe following distance in dry conditions

The two-second rule helps you keep a safe following distance. Pick a fixed point ahead; when the vehicle in front passes it, it should take at least two seconds before you reach the same point. In wet conditions, double this to four seconds.

  4. What must you do if you are involved in a road traffic collision where someone is injured?

Answer: You must stop, give your details, and report it to the police within 24 hours

If someone is injured in a collision, you must stop, provide your name, address, and insurance details, and report the incident to the police within 24 hours if you did not exchange details at the scene. Failing to stop is a criminal offence.

  5. At a pelican crossing, what does a steady amber light mean to drivers?

Answer: Stop at the line — you may proceed only if it is unsafe to stop

A steady amber light means stop at the stop line. You may only proceed past the amber light if you have already crossed the stop line or if stopping would cause a collision. It signals the transition from green to red.

  6. What is the rule for driving on a road with tram lines?

Answer: You may drive along tram lines but must give way to trams at all times

You may drive along tram lines if necessary, but you must give way to trams at all times. Trams cannot steer to avoid you and they take much longer to stop than road vehicles due to their weight. Never park on or obstruct tram lines.
