CTSS Practice Test

The Certified Trauma Services Specialist (CTSS) credential comes from the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). It is meant for people who support trauma survivors, such as crisis responders, victim advocates and counselors. This page has free practice sets on trauma-informed care, crisis management, assessment and ethics. What the CTSS is and how it works

According to Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists, “Attach a check or money order (US funds only) made payable to Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS) for the CTSS certification fee $200.00”^[1]

The CTSS shows that someone who works with traumatized people meets the standards set by ATSS. ATSS decides on certification by reviewing your application. After you submit it, ATSS asks you to allow about 45 days for review and for notice of your certification status. Plan around that wait if an employer or a deadline needs proof of the credential.

The certification fee is $200, or $150 for full-time students and seniors 65+. You pay by check or money order in US funds only, made payable to ATSS. The fee is non-refundable, so make sure your packet is complete before you send it.

An approved certification is valid for 3 years. To keep it, you file the recertification application for your designation and show 30 hours of trauma-related continuing education every 3 years. The recertification fee is $175, or $75 for seniors and students. It is also non-refundable.

ATSS has not published a content outline that we could verify. We also have not confirmed whether a timed written test is part of the process. ATSS sets the eligibility rules, required training, references and documentation, and these can change. The general healthcare sets, such as anatomy, pharmacology and infection control, are broader than most trauma roles. Use them only if your work includes clinical care.

Read the explanation for every question, including the ones you got right. Keep a short log of each miss and the rule behind it, and review that log before each new session. Retake a set only after a break, so you are recalling the reasoning instead of the answer.
