CEM Practice Test

The Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation is awarded by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) through its CEM Commission. It is earned by taking CEM courses and passing the online exam that follows each one. This page has free practice sets by topic and worked answers to sample questions. It also sets out the application fee, retake rules, exam window and renewal requirements, so you can plan your next course.

What the CEM is and how it works

According to International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), CEM Commission, “After successful completion of an on-demand course, candidates will have the opportunity to take the exam in Elevate. No proctor is needed.”^[2]

The CEM is earned course by course. IAEE offers CEM courses on-location, virtually over Zoom, or on demand. Each course has a matching exam that must be taken and passed within 90 days of the course date. After an on-demand course, you take the exam online through IAEE's learning platform, and no proctor is needed.

When you submit your application, you pay an application fee of $125 for IAEE members or $150 for non-members. If you fail a CEM exam, you have 1 year from the date of the failed exam to retake it. A retake costs $25, and you schedule it by emailing IAEE at cem@iaee.com. If you fail the retake as well, you must take the course again.

The certification lasts 3 years. To renew it, you need 15 credit hours and a renewal fee. The fee is $150 if you submit by 15 October of your renewal year, or $200 if you submit after 15 October but before 31 December.

These are practice questions written for this site, not questions from the real exam. Each explanation shows why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong.

Example 1

It is not meant to lower standards. D is wrong because a budget is built around resource limits, so ignoring them defeats its purpose. How to use these practice tests

Start with the official material. Your CEM course content and the IAEE CEM Exam Process page set the terms of each exam. Remember that each exam must be passed within 90 days of its course date, so plan your study inside that window.
