A circuit has a 9V battery and a 3Ω resistor. How much power is dissipated?
Answer: 27W
P = V²/R = 81/3 = 27W. Alternatively, I = 9/3 = 3A, then P = VI = 9 × 3 = 27W.
What is the total resistance of two 6Ω resistors connected in parallel?
Answer: 3Ω
For parallel resistors: 1/R_total = 1/6 + 1/6 = 2/6 = 1/3, so R_total = 3Ω.
What is the difference between AC and DC current?
Answer: AC alternates direction; DC flows in one direction only
AC (alternating current) reverses direction periodically, while DC (direct current) flows consistently in one direction.
What device is used to measure current in a circuit?
Answer: Ammeter
An ammeter measures current and must be connected in series with the circuit.
If a 60W light bulb operates at 120V, what current does it draw?
Answer: 0.5A
I = P/V = 60W/120V = 0.5A.
What is a short circuit?
Answer: An unintended low-resistance path that allows excessive current to flow
A short circuit bypasses the normal load with a very low resistance path, causing dangerously high current.
