What is the difference between Amazon S3 storage classes for cost optimization?
Answer: Classes range from S3 Standard for frequent access to S3 Glacier Deep Archive for long-term archival at lower cost
S3 offers multiple storage classes: Standard (frequent access), Intelligent-Tiering (auto-optimization), Standard-IA and One Zone-IA (infrequent access), Glacier Instant/Flexible Retrieval, and Glacier Deep Archive, each with decreasing cost but increasing retrieval times.
When should you use Amazon EBS versus Amazon EFS?
Answer: EBS provides block storage for single EC2 instances; EFS provides shared file storage accessible by multiple instances
EBS provides persistent block-level storage volumes for individual EC2 instances, while EFS provides a fully managed elastic NFS file system that can be shared across multiple EC2 instances simultaneously.
What is Amazon S3 versioning and why is it important?
Answer: Keeping multiple variants of an object to protect against accidental deletion and overwrites
S3 versioning preserves, retrieves, and restores every version of every object stored in a bucket, providing protection against accidental deletion and overwrites, and enabling easy recovery of previous versions.
What is AWS Storage Gateway?
Answer: A hybrid cloud storage service connecting on-premises environments to AWS cloud storage
AWS Storage Gateway provides a hybrid storage solution connecting on-premises environments to cloud storage through file, volume, and tape gateway modes, enabling seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
What is the maximum size of a single object that can be stored in Amazon S3?
Answer: 5 TB
The maximum size of a single object in S3 is 5 TB. For objects larger than 5 GB, multipart upload must be used. The maximum single PUT upload is 5 GB.
What is Amazon S3 Transfer Acceleration?
Answer: A feature that speeds up S3 transfers by routing through CloudFront edge locations
S3 Transfer Acceleration uses CloudFront's globally distributed edge locations to route uploads over optimized network paths, significantly speeding up long-distance transfers to S3 buckets.
