The ASWB (Association of Social Work Boards) licensing examinations are required for social work licensure across the United States and Canada. Whether you're pursuing your BSW, MSW, Advanced Generalist, or Clinical (LCSW) license, our free printable practice test PDF lets you study anywhere โ no internet required.
Download the PDF below, print it out, and work through realistic exam questions covering all five content domains tested on the ASWB exams.
The ASWB exams test five core content domains. Understanding what each domain covers helps you allocate your study time effectively.
This domain covers NASW cultural competence standards, systems theory, and human developmental stages across the lifespan. You'll need to understand how biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors interact to shape human behavior.
Assessment questions focus on biopsychosocial assessment frameworks, the mental status examination, and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Key diagnoses tested include major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders (GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety), PTSD, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. You need to distinguish symptoms, duration criteria, and differential diagnoses.
This domain tests evidence-based therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention techniques. Clinical-level candidates must also understand supervision models, supervisory relationships, and proper termination procedures.
NASW Code of Ethics questions are heavily tested. Core topics include confidentiality and its limits, managing dual relationships, mandatory reporting obligations (child abuse, elder abuse, duty to warn), and supervision requirements for licensure candidates.
This domain covers case management frameworks, treatment planning, community resource identification, and the use of evidence-based practice standards in clinical and macro social work settings.
Print the PDF and treat it like the real exam โ sit in a quiet space, set a timer, and answer every question without looking anything up. This simulates the pressure of test day and reveals which domains need more review.
After scoring, categorize your wrong answers by domain. If you miss more than 40% in any single domain, prioritize that content area in your remaining study sessions. Use the ASWB Content Outline (available on the ASWB website) alongside this practice test to ensure you've covered every tested topic.
