American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) 8 Practice Test 2025

The American Mathematics Contest 8 2025 (AMC 8) (formerly the American Junior High School Mathematics Examination) for students in grades 8 and below, which began in 1985; the American Mathematics Contest 10 (AMC 10) for students in grades 10 and below, which began in 2000; the American Mathematics Contest 12 (AMC 12) (formerly the American High School Mathematics Examination) for students in grades 12 and below, which began in 1950; and the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) for students in grades 12 and below, which began in 1950. The AMC 10 and 12 were the first contests to use a computerized scoring system. The AMC 8, 10, and 12 have been sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) since 1986.

The exam allows students to apply principles learned in junior high to situations that range in difficulty from easy to difficult and includes a wide range of applications. Many of the problems are intended to challenge pupils and provide problem-solving opportunities beyond what is available in most junior high mathematics programs. Calculators will be outlawed beginning in 2008. Students with high test scores are invited to participate in the AMC 10. AMC 10 and AMC 12 are open to all high school graduates who have taken at least two out of the three approved mathematics courses their state offers. Successful completion of AMC 10 or 12 will not automatically qualify a student for the highest level or AP exams in mathematics.

Some students must sit for the "American Invitational Mathematics Exam" (AIME) as part of their high school diploma requirements. In contrast, others sit for this exam due to an "exceptional proficiency" in mathematics. The AIME provides an entry window into the AP Exam in Advanced Placement (AP) Mathematics, offered once every year, often on a college-level examination.

The AMC 8 is for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 in middle school. Students in 4th and 5th grades who are highly motivated are also invited to participate.

Use Mock Tests to assess your problem-solving abilities. If it’s an online test, you’ll be able to see how prepared you are for the competition. You’ll be able to see where you stand and what needs to change.

The American Mathematics Competition 8 (replaced AJHSME) or AMC 8 is the United States’ first step toward the International Math Olympiad (USAMO). Every year, outstanding students compete in this mathematics festival to put their skills to the test.
This competition seeks to offer students an opportunity to develop a positive attitude toward difficult mathematics issues.

The results of AMC 8 from last year are now available on the official AMC website.

It varies by year. The AMC 8 is difficult some years and easy others.

A star indicates the right response option. Perfect Scores honors students who have received a perfect score of 25. School Honor Roll is given to schools with a team score of 66 or higher (AMC 8, highest three student scores).

The AMC 8 is a 40-minute, 25-question, multiple-choice assessment in middle school mathematics meant to help students develop problem-solving skills.

Following the AMC 8 in January, the MAA AMC office will begin emailing official scores and reports in early to late February. The email reports are sent out roughly in the sequence we receive the school response forms. Processing and reporting take roughly 3 to 4 weeks from start to finish.

No problems need the use of a calculator, which has been prohibited since 2008.

As the exam advances, the problems become more challenging. The last five problems are usually the most difficult.
