  2. Two numbers are in ratio 4:5. Their LCM is 180. What is their HCF?

    Answer: 9

    Numbers = 4k and 5k. LCM(4k,5k) = 20k = 180 → k = 9. HCF = k = 9.

  3. A boat travels 24 km upstream in 6 hours and 24 km downstream in 4 hours. What is the speed of the current?

    Answer: 1 km/h

    Upstream speed = 4 km/h. Downstream speed = 6 km/h. Current = (6-4)/2 = 1 km/h.

  4. Find the compound interest on Rs 10,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years.

    Answer: Rs 2100

    A = 10000 × (1.1)^2 = 12100. CI = 12100 − 10000 = Rs 2100.

  5. A person walks at 4 km/h and reaches office 10 minutes late. If he walks at 6 km/h he reaches 5 minutes early. What is the distance to the office?

    Answer: 3 km

    Time difference = 15 min = 1/4 hr. d/4 − d/6 = 1/4 → d/12 = 1/4 → d = 3 km.
