What is the difference between 'Group Selection tool' and 'Direct Selection tool'?
Answer: The Group Selection tool selects progressively higher group levels with successive clicks, while the Direct Selection tool selects individual anchor points and segments
The Group Selection tool clicks once to select an object within a group, clicks again to select the parent group, and again for the grandparent group, progressively climbing the group hierarchy.
How do you repeat the last transformation applied to an object?
Answer: Press Ctrl/Cmd+D (Transform Again)
Object > Transform > Transform Again (Ctrl/Cmd+D) repeats the most recent transformation (move, scale, rotate, reflect, or shear) with the same parameters.
What is the Global Edit feature in Illustrator?
Answer: A feature that identifies and selects all similar objects in the document so you can edit them simultaneously
Global Edit finds all objects similar to the selected one and enters a mode where changes to one object apply to all matched objects simultaneously.
How do you align objects to a key object rather than to each other?
Answer: Click the desired key object again after selecting all objects - it gets a thick blue outline - then use Align commands
After selecting multiple objects, click on the desired anchor/key object once more. It receives a thick blue highlight, and all alignment commands then align other objects to its position.
What does the 'Outline Stroke' command do?
Answer: It converts a stroked path into a filled shape whose outline matches the original stroke's edges
Object > Path > Outline Stroke converts the stroke of a path into a filled closed shape, allowing you to edit the stroke as a vector shape with its own fill.
How do you precisely position an object using X and Y coordinates?
Answer: Enter exact X and Y values in the Transform panel or Properties panel
The Transform panel (and Properties panel) shows X and Y coordinate fields where you can type exact values to position the selected object precisely on the artboard.
