How do you convert a 2D layer into a 3D layer in After Effects?
Answer: Enable the 3D Layer switch (cube icon) in the Timeline panel
Clicking the 3D Layer switch gives the layer Z-position, X/Y/Z rotation, and material options for 3D compositing.
What is the difference between an 'Active Camera' view and a custom camera view in After Effects?
Answer: Active Camera shows the final render view through the lowest-numbered camera; custom views are for navigation only
Active Camera renders from the enabled Camera layer's perspective; custom views (Front, Top, Right, Custom) are orthographic navigation views that do not render.
What does the 'Point of Interest' property on an After Effects camera do?
Answer: Defines the 3D point in space that the camera continuously aims at
Point of Interest keeps the camera always oriented toward a specific XYZ coordinate, even as the camera position moves.
What is a 'Light Layer' in After Effects used for?
Answer: Illuminating 3D layers in the composition using simulated light sources
Light Layers cast illumination on 3D layers, with types including Parallel, Spot, Point, and Ambient for different lighting scenarios.
What is the 'Auto-Orient' option 'Orient Along Path' used for on a 3D camera or layer?
Answer: Automatically rotates the layer or camera to face along its direction of motion
Orient Along Path rotates the camera or layer so it always points in the direction it is traveling along its motion path.
What does 'Depth of Field' on an After Effects Camera layer simulate?
Answer: The optical blur of out-of-focus elements based on their distance from the camera's focal plane
Depth of Field uses the camera's Focus Distance, Aperture (F-Stop), and Blur Level to simulate lens-based focus blur.
