  1. Under EU Regulation 561/2006 (retained in UK law), what is the maximum daily driving time?

    Answer: 9 hours (extendable to 10 hours twice per week)

    The daily driving limit is 9 hours, which may be extended to 10 hours no more than twice in a working week; exceeding this without exemption is an offence.

  2. How long must a driver take as a break after 4.5 hours of driving?

    Answer: 45 minutes (which may be split as 15+30 in that order)

    After 4.5 hours of driving, a break of at least 45 minutes must be taken; this may be split into a first break of at least 15 minutes followed by a second of at least 30 minutes (in that order only).

    If a tachograph card is lost, stolen or faulty, the driver must apply for a replacement immediately and may carry on driving for up to 15 days using printouts as a substitute record.
