  1. In a Raven's Progressive Matrices problem, the diagonals of a 3x3 grid all contain the same shape. The main diagonal (top-left to bottom-right) contains only pentagons. If this rule also applies to the anti-diagonal, and the anti-diagonal's top-right cell is a pentagon, what is the center cell?

    Answer: Pentagon

Both diagonals share the center cell, and both diagonals are all pentagons, so the center must be a pentagon.

  2. A figure sequence follows the rule: each figure is the previous figure rotated 60° counterclockwise. If figure 1 is a regular triangle pointing upward, how many steps are needed for it to return to the same orientation?

    Answer: 6

A full 360° rotation at 60° per step requires 360 ÷ 60 = 6 steps to return to the starting orientation.

  3. In a 3x3 matrix, each row's three figures differ by having 0, 1, or 2 internal lines added progressively. The columns also follow this rule independently. The top-right cell has 2 lines and the middle-right cell has 1 line. How many internal lines does the bottom-right cell have?

    Answer: 0

The column must contain 0, 1, and 2 lines; since 2 and 1 are taken, the bottom-right cell has 0 internal lines.

  4. A pattern rule says: figures in odd positions are dark, figures in even positions are light, and every third figure has a border added. Which figure first combines being light AND having a border?

    Answer: Figure 6

Light figures are at even positions (2, 4, 6, 8…); bordered figures are at multiples of 3 (3, 6, 9…); the first overlap is position 6.

  5. Each row of a matrix shows a transformation: the shape in column 3 is the shape from column 1 with the shape from column 2 removed (subtracted). Column 1 has a circle+square+triangle combined; Column 2 has a square. What is in column 3?

    Answer: Circle and triangle

Removing the square from the combined circle+square+triangle leaves circle and triangle.

  6. In an abstract series, the size of the central figure doubles every two steps: step 1 is 1 unit, step 3 is 2 units, step 5 is 4 units. What is the size at step 9?

    Answer: 16 units

    Doubling every two steps: step 1=1, 3=2, 5=4, 7=8, 9=16.

  7. A matrix's cells each contain a letter. The rule is that the letter in each cell is determined by advancing the alphabet by the column number (column 1 = +1, column 2 = +2, column 3 = +3) from the letter in the leftmost cell of that row. If the leftmost cell of a row is 'C', what letter appears in column 3 of that row?

    Answer: F

    C + 3 positions in the alphabet = F (C→D→E→F).
