  1. A matrix rule states that each row's three shapes are always the same type, but the fill changes: white, striped, black (left to right). If the left cell of a row shows a white hexagon, what fill does the rightmost cell have?

    Answer: Black

The fill pattern is white → striped → black, so the rightmost cell is black.

  2. In a series, each figure is rotated 45° clockwise from the previous. If figure 1 is a square balanced on its corner (diamond orientation), what orientation is figure 5?

    Answer: Diamond (corner up)

    Four 45° clockwise turns = 180°, and figure 5 is one more turn (225° total), but since 360°/45° = 8 steps for a full rotation, figure 5 at 4 × 45° = 180° from diamond gives a flat-base square — actually figure 5 is 4 steps beyond figure 1: 45°×4=180° rotation from diamond = normal flat square.

  3. Each column of a 3x3 matrix contains exactly one X, one O, and one triangle. The first column has X on top and O in the middle. The second column has triangle on top and X in the middle. What is in the bottom cell of the second column?

    Answer: O

The second column already has triangle and X, so the remaining symbol O must go in the bottom cell.

  4. A pattern shows figures where the number of line segments doubles each step: 1, 2, 4, 8… How many line segments does the 6th figure have?

    Answer: 32

    Starting at 1 and doubling: figure 1=1, 2=2, 3=4, 4=8, 5=16, 6=32.

  5. In a matrix, each row's three figures contain 2, 4, and 6 dots respectively, but in a scrambled order. The rule is that column totals must each equal 12. The first column sums to 12 with 2+4+6. The second column has 6 on top and 2 in the middle. What value is in the bottom cell of the second column?

    Answer: 4

    Column 2 needs to sum to 12; 6 + 2 + ? = 12, so ? = 4.

  6. A series of frames shows a clock hand. In frame 1 it points to 12; each frame it moves 90° clockwise. What time does it point to in frame 7?

    Answer: 3

    Frame 7 is 6 steps from frame 1: 6 × 90° = 540° = 1.5 full rotations, landing at the 3 o'clock position.

  7. Figures in a sequence alternate between having an even number of sides and an odd number of sides, starting with even (4). The sequence of sides is 4, 3, 6, 5, 8, 7... What is the 7th term?

    Answer: 10

    Even terms increase by 2 (4, 6, 8, 10…) and odd-position terms decrease by pattern (3, 5, 7…); the 7th term follows the even sequence: 4, 6, 8, 10 — the 7th term is 10.
