  2. A car covers a distance of 600 km in 6 hours. How much distance will it cover in 9 hours at the same speed?

  3. What is the compound interest on Rs. 5000 at 10% per annum for 2 years?

    Answer: Rs. 1050

    CI = 5000[(1.1)² − 1] = 5000[1.21−1] = 5000×0.21 = Rs. 1050.

    New area = π(2r)² = 4πr², which is 4 times the original; increase = 300%.

  6. Pipes A and B can fill a tank in 6 hours and 9 hours respectively. Pipe C can empty it in 12 hours. How long to fill the tank if all are open?

    Answer: 36/5 hours

    Net rate = 1/6 + 1/9 − 1/12 = 6/36 + 4/36 − 3/36 = 7/36; time = 36/7 ≈ 5.14 h, approximately 36/7.
