The average of 5 numbers is 27. If one number is excluded, the average becomes 25. What is the excluded number?
Answer: 35
Total of 5 numbers = 5×27=135; total of 4 numbers = 4×25=100; excluded number = 135−100=35.
What is the value of √(0.0625)?
Answer: 0.25
√(0.0625) = √(625/10000) = 25/100 = 0.25.
In a class of 40 students, 60% are girls. How many boys are there?
Answer: 16
Girls = 60% of 40 = 24; Boys = 40 − 24 = 16.
A sum doubles itself in 8 years at simple interest. What is the rate of interest per annum?
Answer: 12.5%
SI = P (doubles means SI = P); P = P×R×8/100, so R = 100/8 = 12.5%.
If x + y = 10 and x − y = 4, what is the value of xy?
Answer: 21
From the equations: x=7, y=3; so xy = 7×3 = 21.
The area of a rectangle is 120 cm² and its length is 15 cm. What is its perimeter?
Answer: 46 cm
Width = 120/15 = 8 cm; Perimeter = 2(15+8) = 2×23 = 46 cm.
