  1. What is 3/4 + 2/3?

    Answer: 17/12

    To add fractions with unlike denominators, find the LCD (12), convert: 9/12 + 8/12 = 17/12.

    Answer: 0.24

    0.6 × 0.4: multiply 6 × 4 = 24, then place the decimal point 2 places from the right (one decimal place in each factor = two total), giving 0.24.

    Answer: 7/12

    LCD of 6 and 4 is 12. Convert: 10/12 − 3/12 = 7/12.

  4. Which decimal is equivalent to 3/8?

    Answer: 0.375

    3/8 = 0.375. Divide 3 ÷ 8: 8 goes into 30 three times (0.3), remainder 6; 8 goes into 60 seven times (0.07), remainder 4; 8 goes into 40 five times (0.005). So 3/8 = 0.375.

  5. A recipe uses 2 1/2 cups of flour. If you want to make 3 batches, how many cups of flour do you need?

    Answer: 7 1/2 cups

    2 1/2 × 3 = 5/2 × 3 = 15/2 = 7 1/2 cups. Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction before multiplying.

  6. What is 4.25 ÷ 0.5?

    Answer: 8.5

    4.25 ÷ 0.5: multiply both by 2 to eliminate the decimal in the divisor: 8.5 ÷ 1 = 8.5.
