  1. A bar chart shows that 15 pupils scored 60-69, 22 scored 70-79, and 8 scored 80-89. How many pupils took the test in total?

    Answer: 45

    15 + 22 + 8 = 45 pupils in total.

  2. What is the ratio of boys to girls in a class of 30 where 18 are boys?

    Answer: 3:2

    Boys:Girls = 18:12. Simplifying by dividing both by 6 gives 3:2.

  3. A school budget of £45,000 is split between departments in the ratio 5:4:3. How much does the largest department receive?

    Answer: £18,750

    Total parts = 5 + 4 + 3 = 12. Each part = £45,000 ÷ 12 = £3,750. Largest = 5 × £3,750 = £18,750.

  4. What is the area of a rectangular classroom that is 9.5m long and 7.2m wide?

    Answer: 68.4 m²

    Area = length × width = 9.5 × 7.2 = 68.4 m².

  5. If 5 teachers can mark 150 scripts in 3 hours, how long will it take 3 teachers to mark the same 150 scripts at the same rate?

    Answer: 5 hours

    5 teachers take 3 hours. 1 teacher would take 15 hours. 3 teachers would take 15 ÷ 3 = 5 hours.

  6. Which of the following is equivalent to 5/8?

    Answer: 0.625

    5 ÷ 8 = 0.625. Alternatively, 5/8 = 5 × 0.125 (since 1/8 = 0.125) = 0.625.
