Professional Pet Boarding Certification Risk Management & Mitigation 3

Question 1

On a hot summer day, which sign in a dog during outdoor play most strongly suggests heatstroke?

Accepted Answer

Heavy panting, bright red gums, stumbling, and thick drool

Answer

Collapse, incoordination, bright red gums, and thick saliva indicate heatstroke, which requires immediate cooling and veterinary care.

Question 2

What is the correct way to cool a dog showing signs of heatstroke while arranging veterinary transport?

Accepted Answer

Apply cool (not ice-cold) water and airflow, then get to a veterinarian

Answer

Cool water with airflow lowers body temperature safely, while ice water and covering towels can trap heat or cause vasoconstriction.

Question 3

Which document best protects a facility by showing the owner was informed of the inherent risks of group play?

Accepted Answer

A signed boarding agreement with a risk acknowledgment

Answer

A signed agreement documenting informed consent to known risks supports the facility if a dispute arises.

Question 4

Canine influenza is suspected in a boarding dog. What is the best immediate risk mitigation step?

Accepted Answer

Isolate the dog, notify the owner, and contact a veterinarian

Answer

Prompt isolation limits spread of this highly contagious respiratory virus while veterinary guidance is obtained.

Question 5

Why is it important to know the contact time listed on a disinfectant's label?

Accepted Answer

It is the time the surface must stay wet for the product to kill the listed pathogens

Answer

If a disinfectant is wiped off or dries before its contact time, it may not inactivate pathogens such as parvovirus.
