  1. Statement: 'All premium members get free shipping. Some premium members also receive a discount.' Which must be true?

Answer: Some people receive both free shipping and a discount

All premium members get free shipping (universal). Some premium members get a discount. Therefore, those 'some' who get a discount also have free shipping — so some people get both.

  2. A news report states: 'Cities that invested in public transportation saw a 15% reduction in traffic congestion. Cities that did not invest saw no change.' City X reduced congestion by 15%. What can we conclude?

Answer: Nothing definitive can be concluded

While the pattern matches, there could be other causes for the 15% reduction. The report shows correlation, not exclusive causation.

  3. 'No supervisor approved overtime for last weekend. Tom worked overtime last weekend.' Which conclusion follows?

Answer: Tom's overtime was not approved by a supervisor

Since no supervisor approved overtime for that weekend, and Tom worked overtime, his overtime was not supervisor-approved. We cannot conclude policy violation or discipline without more information.

  4. Passage: 'Employees are eligible for promotion after 2 years of service AND completion of a leadership course. Jane has 3 years of service but has not completed the leadership course.' Is Jane eligible for promotion?

Answer: No, both conditions must be met

The word AND requires BOTH conditions: 2+ years of service AND course completion. Jane meets only one condition, so she's not eligible.

  5. Consider: 'Whenever the factory alarm sounds, all workers must evacuate. The alarm did not sound today.' Which is valid?

Answer: Workers may or may not have evacuated

The rule only tells us what happens WHEN the alarm sounds. When it doesn't sound, we have no information — workers might evacuate for other reasons or might not.

  6. Report: 'Team A outperformed Team B in sales. Team B outperformed Team C. Team D outperformed Team A.' Rank the teams from best to worst sales performance.

    Answer: D, A, B, C

    D > A (given), A > B (given), B > C (given). Combined: D > A > B > C.
