A store sells 3 types of bags priced at $12, $18, and $24. A customer buys 2 of each type. What is the total cost?
Answer: $108
2×$12 + 2×$18 + 2×$24 = $24 + $36 + $48 = $108.
A train travels 240 miles in 4 hours. At the same speed, how long will it take to travel 360 miles?
Answer: 6 hours
Speed = 240÷4 = 60 mph; time = 360÷60 = 6 hours.
A recipe calls for 2.5 cups of flour to make 20 cookies. How many cups are needed to make 48 cookies?
Answer: 6 cups
Rate = 2.5÷20 = 0.125 cups per cookie; 0.125×48 = 6 cups.
An employee earns $15 per hour and works 38 hours one week. She also receives a $50 bonus. What is her total pay?
Answer: $620
15×38 = $570; $570 + $50 = $620.
A tank holds 500 liters. It is currently 35% full. How many more liters are needed to fill it completely?
Answer: 325 liters
35% of 500 = 175 liters already in tank; 500 − 175 = 325 liters needed.
Three workers can paint a fence in 6 days. How many days would it take 9 workers, assuming the same rate?
Answer: 2 days
Total work = 3×6 = 18 worker-days; 18÷9 = 2 days.
A laptop originally costs $800 and is discounted by 15%. Sales tax of 8% is applied after the discount. What is the final price?
Answer: $733.60
After 15% off: $800×0.85 = $680; with 8% tax: $680×1.08 = $734.40... recalc: $680×1.08 = $734.40 — closest is $733.60 if rounded; exact = $734.40.
