Answer: $30
25% of $40 is $10, so $40 - $10 = $30.
The ratio of cats to dogs at a shelter is 3:5. If there are 24 cats, how many dogs are there?
Answer: 40
Each part equals 24 ÷ 3 = 8, so dogs = 5 × 8 = 40.
What is 15% of 200?
Answer: 30
15% of 200 = 0.15 × 200 = 30.
A recipe uses flour and sugar in a 4:1 ratio. If you use 12 cups of flour, how much sugar is needed?
Answer: 3 cups
Sugar = 12 ÷ 4 = 3 cups since the ratio is 4:1.
A number increased from 50 to 65. What is the percent increase?
Answer: 30%
Increase is 15; 15 ÷ 50 = 0.30, which is 30%.
If 6 pencils cost $1.50, what is the cost of 10 pencils at the same rate?
Answer: $2.50
Each pencil costs $0.25, so 10 × $0.25 = $2.50.
What percent is 18 out of 90?
Answer: 20%
18 ÷ 90 = 0.20, which equals 20%.
