What is the equation of the y-axis on a coordinate plane?
Answer: x = 0
Every point on the y-axis has an x-coordinate of 0, so x = 0.
A line passes through (0, -2) and (4, 0). What is its slope?
Answer: 1/2
Slope equals (0 - (-2))/(4 - 0) = 2/4 = 1/2.
Which point does NOT lie on the line y = 3x?
Answer: (2, 5)
For x = 2, y should be 6, so (2, 5) is not on the line.
If you reflect the point (3, 5) across the x-axis, what are its new coordinates?
Answer: (3, -5)
Reflecting across the x-axis negates the y-coordinate, giving (3, -5).
A line graph rises steeply, then levels off. What does the steep part show compared to the flat part?
Answer: A faster rate of change
A steeper section of a line graph indicates a faster rate of change.
What is the x-intercept of the line y = 2x - 6?
Answer: 3
Set y = 0: 0 = 2x - 6, so x = 3.
Which transformation moves a graph up without changing its slope?
Answer: Increasing the y-intercept
Raising the y-intercept shifts the line up while keeping the same slope.
