  1. What comes next in the series: 3, 7, 13, 21, 31, ?

    Answer: 43

    The differences between terms are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 — increasing by 2 each time, so 31 + 12 = 43.

  2. A soldier's monthly salary increased from $2,500 to $3,000. What is the percentage increase?

    Answer: 20%

    Percentage increase = (500 / 2500) × 100 = 20%.

  3. Brigade is to Army as Company is to:

    Answer: Battalion

A Brigade is a sub-unit of an Army just as a Company is a sub-unit of a Battalion in the military hierarchy.

  4. In a training unit, the ratio of officers to enlisted personnel is 2:9. If there are 44 officers, how many enlisted personnel are there?

    Answer: 198

    Each ratio unit equals 44 ÷ 2 = 22, so enlisted personnel = 22 × 9 = 198.

  5. A patrol moves 5 km north, then 3 km east, then 5 km south. How far and in which direction is the patrol from its starting point?

    Answer: 3 km East

The 5 km north and 5 km south cancel out, leaving only the 3 km eastward displacement.

  6. Two convoys depart from the same base in opposite directions at 60 km/h and 80 km/h respectively. How far apart are they after 3 hours?

    Answer: 420 km

    Combined speed = 60 + 80 = 140 km/h; distance = 140 × 3 = 420 km.

  7. Which number is the odd one out: 121, 144, 169, 196, 225, 256, 315?

    Answer: 315

    All others are perfect squares (11² through 16²), but 315 is not a perfect square (17² = 289, 18² = 324).
