  1. The test scores of 7 cadets are: 72, 85, 69, 91, 78, 85, 88. What is the median score?

    Answer: 85

    Sorted: 69, 72, 78, 85, 85, 88, 91 — the 4th (middle) value is 85.

  2. A unit completes a 10-mile march in 2.5 hours. What is their average speed in miles per hour?

    Answer: 4 mph

    Speed = distance ÷ time = 10 ÷ 2.5 = 4 mph.

  3. Five soldiers scored 78, 82, 91, 67, and x on a fitness test. If the average score is 81, what is x?

    Answer: 87

    (78 + 82 + 91 + 67 + x) / 5 = 81 → 318 + x = 405 → x = 87.

  4. A fuel container holds 500 gallons and is currently 40% full. How many more gallons are needed to fill it?

    Answer: 300

    The container is 60% empty: 500 × 0.60 = 300 gallons needed.

  5. In a group of 30 officers, 18 passed a fitness evaluation. What percentage passed?

    Answer: 60%

    18 ÷ 30 × 100 = 60%.

  6. A vehicle travels at 60 mph for 2.5 hours, then at 45 mph for 1 hour. What is the total distance traveled?

    Answer: 195 miles

    60 × 2.5 + 45 × 1 = 150 + 45 = 195 miles.

  7. From the data set {3, 7, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21}, what is the range?

    Answer: 18

    Range = maximum − minimum = 21 − 3 = 18.
