The larger share is 5/(3+5) × 24 = 15 soldiers.
A military vehicle travels 240 miles on 8 gallons of fuel. How many gallons are needed for a 390-mile mission?
Answer: 13
The vehicle gets 30 mpg, so 390 ÷ 30 = 13 gallons.
A cadet's test score improved from 65 to 78. What is the percentage increase?
Answer: 20%
Percentage increase = (78 − 65) / 65 × 100 = 20%.
If 30% of a unit's 120 members are officers, how many are non-officers?
Answer: 84
30% of 120 = 36 officers, so 120 − 36 = 84 non-officers.
A field mixture requires a salt-to-water ratio of 1:8. How much salt is needed for 72 liters of water?
Answer: 9 liters
72 ÷ 8 = 9 liters of salt.
A cadet answers 80% of 50 test questions correctly. How many questions were answered incorrectly?

80% of 50 = 40 correct, so 50 − 40 = 10 incorrect.
