Read the following extract, then answer the question. "Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic waste enter the world's oceans, threatening marine ecosystems and the creatures that depend on them. Scientists have documented plastic fragments in the bodies of seabirds, fish, and even deep-sea organisms. Unlike organic waste, plastic does not biodegrade; instead, it breaks into smaller and smaller pieces called microplastics, which are almost impossible to remove once they disperse through the water column."
