A recipe calls for 2/3 cup of solution. If you need to make 4.5 batches, how many cups are needed?
Answer: 3 cups
2/3 × 4.5 = 2/3 × 9/2 = 18/6 = 3 cups.
Solve for x: 3x + 7 = 28
Answer: 7
Subtract 7 from both sides: 3x = 21. Divide by 3: x = 7.
A hospital floor has 24 patients. If 3/8 are on fluid restrictions and 1/6 of those on fluid restrictions are diabetic, how many patients are both on fluid restrictions and diabetic?
Answer: 1.5
Patients on fluid restrictions: 24 × 3/8 = 9. Diabetic among those: 9 × 1/6 = 1.5. Since we can't have half a patient, this rounds to approximately 1.5, but the mathematical answer is 1.5.
What is 15% of 240?
Answer: 36
15% of 240 = 0.15 × 240 = 36.
A rectangular wound measures 4.5 cm by 3.2 cm. What is its area?
Answer: 14.4 cm²
Area of a rectangle = length × width = 4.5 × 3.2 = 14.4 cm².
If a nurse can complete 6 patient assessments in 2.5 hours, how many assessments can she complete in an 8-hour shift?
Answer: 19.2
Rate: 6 assessments / 2.5 hours = 2.4 assessments/hour. In 8 hours: 2.4 × 8 = 19.2 assessments.
