What is the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE)?

The National Career Assessment Examination is the Philippine government's flagship aptitude assessment for secondary students. Introduced by DepEd to align student strengths with career pathways, the NCAE exam measures seven distinct aptitude domains, providing both students and guidance counselors with data-driven insights for Senior High School track selection.

Unlike traditional academic exams, the NCAE Philippines test does not have a passing or failing score. Instead, every student receives a Percentile Rank (PR) within each subtest domain, indicating how their performance compares to the national cohort. A high PR in Scientific Ability, for example, strongly suggests aptitude for the STEM strand, while strong Occupational Interest Inventory scores can indicate readiness for the TVL track.

The examination is free for all students enrolled in public secondary schools, and many private schools include it as part of their standard testing program.
