  1. A box plot shows the following values: minimum = 10, Q1 = 15, median = 22, Q3 = 30, maximum = 42. What is the IQR?

    Answer: 15

    IQR = Q3 - Q1 = 30 - 15 = 15. The box in a box plot represents the IQR, containing the middle 50% of the data.

  2. If P(A) = 0.6, what is P(not A)?

    Answer: 0.4

    The complement rule states P(not A) = 1 - P(A) = 1 - 0.6 = 0.4. The probability of an event occurring plus the probability of it not occurring always equals 1.

  3. For the data set: 2, 3, 5, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, what is the median?

    Answer: 6

    With 8 values (even number), the median is the average of the 4th and 5th values: (5 + 7)/2 = 6.

  4. In how many ways can 4 students be arranged in a row?

    Answer: 24

    The number of arrangements is 4! = 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24. Each position in the row offers one fewer choice than the previous.

  5. If two dice are rolled, what is the probability that the sum is 7?

    Answer: 1/6

    Combinations that sum to 7: (1,6), (2,5), (3,4), (4,3), (5,2), (6,1) — that's 6 out of 36 total outcomes. P = 6/36 = 1/6.

  6. Which measure of central tendency is most affected by outliers?

    Answer: Mean

    The mean is most affected by outliers because it uses every value in its calculation. One extremely high or low value can significantly shift the mean, while the median and mode are resistant to outliers.
