  1. A rectangle is 8 cm long and 3 cm wide. What is its area?

    Answer: 24 cm²

    Area of a rectangle = length × width = 8 × 3 = 24 cm². Area is a core NAPLAN measurement skill.

  2. How many sides does a hexagon have?

    Answer: 6

A hexagon has six sides. Naming 2D shapes by their number of sides is part of the Geometry strand.

  3. What is the perimeter of a square with sides of 7 cm?

    Answer: 28 cm

Perimeter is the total distance around: 4 × 7 = 28 cm. (49 cm² would be the area.)

  4. How many millilitres are in 2 litres?

    Answer: 2,000 mL

There are 1,000 millilitres in a litre, so 2 litres = 2,000 mL. Converting metric units is tested in NAPLAN.

  5. A clock shows 3:45. How many minutes until 4:00?

    Answer: 15 minutes

From 3:45 to 4:00 is 15 minutes. Reading and calculating time is a NAPLAN measurement skill.

  6. Which 3D shape has 6 square faces?

    Answer: Cube

A cube has 6 equal square faces. Recognising properties of 3D objects is part of Geometry.

  7. An angle that is exactly 90 degrees is called a:

    Answer: Right angle

A 90-degree angle is a right angle. Acute angles are smaller and obtuse angles are larger. Angles are assessed in NAPLAN.

  8. A water tank holds 5 litres. If 1,500 mL is used, how much water is left?

    Answer: 3,500 mL

    5 litres = 5,000 mL. Subtract: 5,000 − 1,500 = 3,500 mL remaining. This combines unit conversion with subtraction.
