  1. A recipe calls for 2.5 cups of flour to make 24 cookies. How many cups are needed to make 60 cookies?

    Answer: 6.25 cups

    Rate = 2.5/24 cups per cookie; for 60: (2.5/24) × 60 = 6.25 cups.

  2. Two friends split a bill so that one pays twice as much as the other. If the total bill is $93, how much does the person paying more contribute?

    Answer: $62

    Let x = smaller share; x + 2x = 93 → x = 31; larger share = 2×31 = $62.

  3. A ladder 10 feet long leans against a wall. If the base is 6 feet from the wall, how high up the wall does the ladder reach?

    Answer: 8 feet

    h = √(10² − 6²) = √(100 − 36) = √64 = 8 feet.

  4. A $200 item is discounted by 15%, then the discounted price is taxed at 8%. What is the final price?

    Answer: $183.60

    Discounted: 200 × 0.85 = $170; with tax: 170 × 1.08 = $183.60.

  5. Train A leaves at 9:00 AM going 60 mph. Train B leaves the same station at 10:00 AM going 80 mph in the same direction. At what time will Train B catch Train A?

    Answer: 1:00 PM

    Train A has 1-hr head start = 60 miles; relative speed = 20 mph; catch-up time = 60/20 = 3 hrs after 10 AM = 1:00 PM.

  6. A cylinder has radius 3 cm and height 10 cm. What is its volume? (Use π ≈ 3.14)

    Answer: 282.6 cm³

    V = π r² h = 3.14 × 9 × 10 = 282.6 cm³.

  7. If 30% of a number is 45, what is 80% of that number?

    Answer: 120

    0.30 × N = 45 → N = 150; 80% of 150 = 0.80 × 150 = 120.
