What is the distance between points (1, 2) and (4, 6)?
Answer: 5
Distance = √((4−1)² + (6−2)²) = √(9 + 16) = √25 = 5.
What is the midpoint of the segment connecting (2, 4) and (8, 10)?
Answer: (5, 7)
Midpoint = ((2+8)/2, (4+10)/2) = (5, 7).
Two triangles are similar with corresponding sides in the ratio 2:5. If a side of the smaller triangle is 6, what is the corresponding side of the larger triangle?
Answer: 15
Setting up the proportion 2/5 = 6/x gives x = 15.
What is the slope of the line passing through (3, 1) and (7, 9)?
Answer: 2
Slope = (9−1)/(7−3) = 8/4 = 2.
A line has slope 3. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to it?
Answer: −1/3
Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals, so slope = −1/3.
The sum of interior angles of a polygon is 720°. How many sides does it have?
Answer: 6
Sum of interior angles = (n − 2) × 180°; solving (n − 2) × 180 = 720 gives n = 6.
An isosceles triangle has two equal sides of length 10 and a base of length 12. What is the height from the base to the apex?
Answer: 8
The height bisects the base into two 6-unit segments; h = √(10² − 6²) = √(100 − 36) = √64 = 8.
