  1. In a 3×3 matrix, each row contains shapes of increasing size: small, medium, large. Each column contains a circle, triangle, and square in some order. The bottom-left cell must be which shape if column 1 already has a circle (top) and square (middle)?

    Answer: Triangle

Each column uses each shape exactly once, so the remaining shape for the bottom of column 1 is a triangle.

  2. A matrix shows numbers where each cell equals the product of its row number and column number (1-indexed). What value belongs in row 3, column 3?

    Answer: 9

    Row 3 × Column 3 = 3 × 3 = 9.

  3. In a matrix, the pattern across each row adds a new concentric ring to a circle: 1 ring, 2 rings, 3 rings. Moving down each column, the rings are filled in from outside to inside. The middle-right cell (row 2, col 3) has 3 rings with only the outermost filled. Row 3, col 3 should have:

Answer: 3 rings, outermost two filled

Moving down column 3, one additional ring fills in per row, so row 3 has the outer two rings filled.

  4. Each row in a 3×3 matrix has three letters that are consecutive in the alphabet. Row 1: A, B, C. Row 2: D, E, F. What letters complete Row 3?

    Answer: G, H, I

Each row advances by 3 letters from the previous row's start, giving G, H, I.

  5. A matrix has cells where the number of line segments in each shape decreases by 1 moving right across each row: 4, 3, 2. Moving down each column, the number increases by 2 per row. What shape (by segment count) is in row 3, column 3?

    Answer: 4 segments

    Column 3 starts at 2 (row 1) and adds 2 per row: row 2 = 4, row 3 = 4... actually row 1 col 3 = 2, row 2 col 3 = 4, row 3 col 3 = 6.

  6. In a matrix, each cell contains an arrow. Moving right, the arrow rotates 90° clockwise. Moving down, the arrow rotates 90° counterclockwise. The top-left arrow points right (→). What direction does the bottom-right cell (row 3, col 3) arrow point?

    Answer: Right (→)

Two clockwise turns (+180°) and two counterclockwise turns (−180°) cancel out, leaving the original direction.

  7. A 3×3 matrix contains gray-scale shading values from 0 (white) to 4 (black). The top row is 0, 1, 2. The middle row is 1, 2, 3. What is the bottom row?

    Answer: 2, 3, 4

Each row increments all values by 1 from the row above, giving 2, 3, 4.
