Matric — The South African National Senior Certificate (NSC), colloquially called 'Matric', is the school-leaving examination administered by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and quality-assured by Umalusi; students write separate timed papers per subject in October/November of Grade 12, with minimum requirements of 40% in Home Language and 30% in at least four other subjects to pass; a Bachelor's pass requires 50%+ in four designated subjects.
