  1. A store sells apples for $0.75 each and oranges for $1.25 each. If Maria buys 4 apples and 3 oranges, how much does she spend in total?

    Answer: $6.75

    4 × $0.75 = $3.00 and 3 × $1.25 = $3.75, so $3.00 + $3.75 = $6.75.

  2. A rectangular garden is 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. What is the perimeter of the garden?

    Answer: 40 feet

    Perimeter = 2 × (length + width) = 2 × (12 + 8) = 2 × 20 = 40 feet.

  3. A train travels at 60 miles per hour. How far will it travel in 2 hours and 30 minutes?

    Answer: 150 miles

    2.5 hours × 60 mph = 150 miles.

  4. Jake scored 85, 92, 78, and 95 on four math tests. What is his average (mean) score?

    Answer: 87.5

    (85 + 92 + 78 + 95) ÷ 4 = 350 ÷ 4 = 87.5.

  5. A bag contains 5 red marbles, 3 blue marbles, and 2 green marbles. What fraction of the marbles are blue?

    Answer: 3/10

    There are 3 blue marbles out of 5 + 3 + 2 = 10 total, so the fraction is 3/10.

  6. If a pizza is cut into 8 equal slices and 3 slices are eaten, what percentage of the pizza remains?

    Answer: 62.5%

    5 slices remain out of 8, and 5/8 = 0.625 = 62.5%.

  7. A bookshelf has 6 shelves. Each shelf can hold 24 books. If the bookshelf is currently 3/4 full, how many books are on the bookshelf?

    Answer: 108

    Total capacity = 6 × 24 = 144 books; 3/4 × 144 = 108 books.
