Under USA Pickleball rules, what happens if the ball hits the non-volley zone line on a serve?
Answer: The serve is a fault
Under current USA Pickleball rules, a serve that lands on the non-volley zone line is a fault. The kitchen line is out for serves.
What is the correct ruling when a player's clothing (not their hand) touches the net post while volleying?
Answer: It is a fault — any contact with the net post structure during play results in a fault
Under USA Pickleball rules, any contact with the net, net post, or net system by the player or their clothing during a rally is a fault.
In doubles, player A is serving. Their partner (player B) is standing inside the non-volley zone during the serve. Is this allowed?
Answer: Yes — there is no rule restricting where non-serving players may stand during the serve
USA Pickleball rules only restrict the SERVER's position during the serve. Other players may stand anywhere, including inside the NVZ.
What does 'out in the air' mean under USA Pickleball rules?
Answer: A ball that a player hits before it bounces, and that ball is determined to be going out of bounds — the hitting player loses the rally
If a player volleys a ball (hits it before it bounces) that would have landed out of bounds, the volleying player loses the rally — it is their fault for hitting a ball that was going out.
Under USA Pickleball rules, can a player reach over the net to hit a ball that has spun back over to their side?
Answer: Yes — if the ball has already crossed back over the net due to spin or wind, the player may reach over to play it, provided they do not touch the net
A player may legally reach over the net to return a ball that has passed back over to their side due to spin or wind, as long as they do not touch the net system.
What is a 'double bounce rule' (two-bounce rule) in pickleball, and when does it apply?
Answer: A rule requiring the serve and the return of serve each to bounce before any player may volley — applies at the start of each point
The two-bounce rule requires the serve to bounce in the service court AND the return of serve to bounce before either team may volley. It applies at the start of every point.
