  1. Three electricians split a bonus equally. If the total bonus is $1,347, how much does each receive?

    Answer: $449

    1347 ÷ 3 = 449.

  2. A box contains 144 connectors. If you use 5/12 of them, how many remain?

    Answer: 84

    5/12 of 144 = 60 used. Remaining = 144 - 60 = 84.

  3. If 1 mile of wire weighs 850 lbs, how much does 2,640 feet weigh? (1 mile = 5,280 ft)

    Answer: 425 lbs

    2,640 ft is half a mile (2640/5280 = 0.5). Half of 850 lbs = 425 lbs.

  4. A transformer operates at 85% efficiency. If the input power is 2,400 watts, what is the output power?

    Answer: 2,040 watts

    85% of 2,400 = 0.85 × 2,400 = 2,040 watts.

  5. A project uses 3 times as much copper wire as aluminum wire. If 480 feet of wire are needed in total, how many feet of copper wire are needed?

    Answer: 360 ft

    Let aluminum = x, copper = 3x. x + 3x = 480, so 4x = 480, x = 120. Copper = 3 × 120 = 360 ft.

  6. An electrician's hourly rate is $28. Overtime (time and a half) applies after 8 hours. How much is earned in a 10-hour day?

    Answer: $308

    Regular: 8 × $28 = $224. Overtime rate: $28 × 1.5 = $42. OT pay: 2 × $42 = $84. Total: $224 + $84 = $308.
